Peter Lear riding Doonaveeragh Amanda Wins EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Felbridge Showground

The third of the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Rounds took place on Sunday 3rd June 2012 at Felbridge Showground in East Grinstead, West Sussex. The class was a key part of the competition at Felbridge Showground and the class attracted entries from talented horse and rider combinations all over the country.

The EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Felbridge Showground attracted 76 starters with the aim of qualifying for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show on Wednesday 3rd October 2012.

Up for grabs were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final and from the total number of starters, six combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off and from these six combinations, five went on to produce the immaculate treble clears needed to put them in with a chance of qualifying for the Championship Final.

The overall winner of this second round was 38-year-old Peter Lear from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex and he won the on board his own six-year-old mare, Doonaveeragh Amanda. The combination produced an immaculate treble clear in a time of only 40.10 seconds to clinch the class win and the first HOYS direct qualifying place.

Second place and the second HOYS direct qualifying place went to 46-year-old Karen Wellings from Hassocks, West Sussex. Karen rode her nine-year-old gelding, Wispher IX clear over the seven fence jump off course in a time of 40.33 seconds.

Just missing out on the Horse of the Year Show qualifications were the combinations in third to fifth. All of these combinations secured their opportunity to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).

The Horse of the Year Show 2012 will take place from the 3rd – 7th October 2012 at the NEC in Birmingham.

The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
